CHICAGO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – The Profit Sharing/401k Council of America (PSCA), a national, non-profit association committed to retirement savings through employee-sponsored defined contribution programs, encourages employers to celebrate the 14th Annual National 401(k) Day, which this year falls on Friday, September 5, 2008. National 401(k) Day is an annual celebration that encourages employers to set aside time at the workplace to spotlight the importance of their 401(k) plans. “Employers across America should use National 401(k) Day to focus on the critical role that 401(k) plans play in millions of workers’ futures,” said David Wray, president of PSCA. PSCA has created an extensive library of free materials that employers can use to celebrate 401(k) Day with their employees. This year’s materials are targeted to three different demographic groups of employees using creative concepts, interactive tools, and printed materials that address the specific needs and questions of those groups. The three life stages are illustrated through the use of a loosely based selection of cultural references that appeal to each age demographic. The 401(k) Day 2008 campaigns will provide a positive everyday connection with life for each demographic group. The campaigns include:
· “American Dream” for Generation Y (those under age 30)
· “The Symptoms of Not Saving” for Generation X (those born primarily between 1967 and 1978)
· “Critical Savings Initiative” for Baby Boomers (those born primarily between 1946 and 1967)
In addition, an interactive campaign called “The Amazing Road to Retirement” helps employees learn the differences between making traditional versus Roth contributions to a 401(k) plan. Also new for 2008 is an exciting Mythbusters Quiz, which helps employees navigate the myths and facts about retirement planning, as well as “The Power of 10 (Minutes),” an easy-to-use suite of education tools that can be completed in 10 minuets or less. “Messages about 401(k) plans are competing with all the other messages we hear in our daily lives, so using visual references help pique employees’ interest and make retirement savings more fun,” said Wray. Employers of any size and industry, whether PSCA members or not, can use the 401(k) Day materials to celebrate 401(k) plans on the day of their choosing. All of the materials are customizable, available in English and Spanish for both traditional and Roth 401(k) plans, and include step-by-step instructions for employers. Items available include posters, payroll stuffers, letters, postcards, and Web casts. All of the materials are available at PSCA’s special 401(k) Day Web site, http://www.401kday.org. National 401(k) Day is supported by the nation's leading retirement plan providers and is sponsored in part by: ADP Retirement Services, Fidelity Investments, Lincoln Financial Group, Principal Financial Group, T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., The Hartford, The Standard, and Transamerica Retirement Services. Special thanks to Charles Schwab for the graphic design of employee education materials. Special thanks to Wells Fargo for the graphic design of the Roth 401(k) tools. |
