PSCA Honors Zvi Bodie With 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award

Zvi Bodie, Professor Emeritus at Boston University, will receive the Plan Sponsor Council of America’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the PSCA 2019 National Conference on April 30-May 1, 2019 in Tampa Bay, FL.

“Zvi has shown great dedication throughout his 40 plus year career to the formulation and dissemination of prudent investment practices in retirement planning,” said Tim Kohn, Vice President and Head of Defined Contribution at Dimensional Fund Advisors, “Widely acknowledged as one of the nation’s leading authorities on pension investing, his insights on pension finance and investment strategy have, for decades, been widely published in leading professional journals.

“Zvi has spent his career working to build a more secure retirement future for America’s workers and is considered a leading expert in our industry,” said Jack Towarnicky, PSCA’s executive director. “His impact has been far reaching through his extensive research, writing, and public speaking engagements. We are thrilled to honor him with this prestigious award in acknowledgement of his impact on the defined contribution industry.”

Bodie joined the Boston University School of Management faculty in 1972 as a professor of Finance and Economics. In 2006, he was the first recipient of the Norman and Adele Barron Professorship, an honor which he held until retirement. He earned a BA from Brooklyn College in New York, an MA from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has served on the finance faculty at the Harvard Business School and MIT Sloan School of Management. In 2007, the Retirement Income Industry Association honored Zvi with a Lifetime Achievement Award for applied research.

Bodie's body of work includes Foundations of Pension Finance, Pensions in the U.S. Economy, Issues in Pension Economics, and Financial Aspects of the U.S. Pension System. His textbook, Investments, is widely viewed as the market leader on the topic.

Bodie has written several books to help investors save for retirement including Risk Less and Prosper: Your Guide to Safer Investing; Worry-Free Investing; A Safe Approach to Achieving Your Lifetime Financial Goals; and Financial Economics, co-authored by Nobel Prize winning economist Robert C. Merton.

PSCA’s Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2015 and honors individuals for their contributions to the growth of the defined contribution industry. Bodie will be recognized at an award ceremony on April 30th at PSCA’s National Conference. Previous PSCA Lifetime Achievement Award recipients include Cindy Hounsell, President of WISER, the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement, Anna Rappaport, founder of Anna Rappaport Consulting, Nancy Webman, retired editor of Pensions & Investments, Karen Barnes, managing counsel for McDonald’s Corp. and David G. Booth, co-founder, co-CEO, and chairman of Dimensional Fund Advisors.
