PSCA Kicks Off 401(k)/403(b) Day Prep With New Campaign

Hattie Greenan

The Plan Sponsor Council of America (PSCA) has today released an exciting new education campaign to help plan sponsors support and expand participation in their workplace retirement plans.

The campaign – timed to coincide with National 401(k)/403(b) Day - highlights different retirement savings concepts including enrollment, savings rates, investments, loans and hardship withdrawals, catch-up contributions, and planning retirement income. PSCA, part of the American Retirement Association (ARA), is the leading association for sponsors of voluntary, employer-based retirement plans in the U.S.

The Friday after Labor day is known as National 401(k)/403(b) Day – a day to focus on retirement planning and preparation. The materials for this year’s Sept. 6 celebration are meant to help plan sponsors maximize their 401(k) and 403(b) plans throughout the year.

“While we draw attention to these plans on a specific day, 401(k)/403(b) Day can be every day for plan sponsors and retirement plan participants,” said Jack Towarnicky, executive director at PSCA. “It can be a one-day celebration of your company’s plan or a year-long education effort – however you choose to recognize the day, PSCA’s materials are designed to inspire and support your efforts – and at no cost to plan sponsors.”

The campaign features five distinct football-themed modules that are suitable for use as part of a single event, over the course of a week, or throughout the year. They include a coach’s “playbook” to help plan sponsors customize their 401(k)/403(b) Day campaigns for their participants. Each module includes flyers and posters, which can be downloaded for print, or posted to websites and used in emails, to help employees:

  • Get in the Game
  • Play Offense
  • Avoid Getting Sacked
  • Make a Comeback
  • Win

Materials include “game tips” and “penalty risks” on each topic. Campaign materials were made available exclusively to PSCA members last month.

“We want employers to use this campaign and its resources when it works best for them – and also when it is right for their employees,” said Tobi Davis, Director of Operations for PSCA. This year we are asking plan sponsors to share photos of their efforts on Twitter using the hashtag #401kday. We will enter their names into a drawing to win a free registration to the Plan Sponsor Council of America’s 2020 National Conference in New Orleans, May 14-15, 2020.

All materials are now available on PSCA’s website at and may be downloaded free of charge. The resources can be customized with a company logo, call to action, and the individual plan’s contact information. PSCA is also sponsored a webinar featuring tips on hosting a successful 401(k) Day celebration using the materials.
