Labor Secretary

On September 9, thirteen former colleagues of Eugene Scalia, President Trump’s nominee to serve as Labor Secretary, sent a letter to the Senate HELP Committee endorsing Mr. Scalia. The colleagues all served with Mr. Scalia while he was at the Department. They wrote that he will “bring…an in-depth knowledge” and “a powerful intellect” to the role and that he had previously shown “great respect for the mission of…DOL.” We understand that the HELP Committee currently plans to take up Mr. Scalia’s nomination in mid-September with the goal of an early October confirmation. At this point, no Republicans have raised concerns about Mr. Scalia’s nomination, which only needs to be approved by a simple majority vote.
