IRI Honors Retirement "Champions," Shines Light on Need to Start Saving Sooner.

On Thursday, the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) honored Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ), Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA), and Rep. Patrick Tiberi (R-OH) as the 2014 recipients of the IRI Champions of Retirement Security Award during an event on Capitol Hill. Rep. Holt, who is retiring from Congress, was recognized as a legacy recipient of the award, acknowledging his commitment to retirement security during his career in the House.

The event coincided with the release of a new IRI report highlighting the importance for people to begin saving earlier in their careers.  In addition, speakers at the event highlighted other policy improvements they'd like to see in the next Congress, including:

  • Increased plan sponsor fiduciary clarity.
  • Annuity portability.
  • Making additional multiple employer plans available to start ups and small businesses.
  • A push on the Lifetime Income Disclosure Act.
  • Enhancements to auto enrollment and auto education programs.
