QOTW: Incentives

During a recent PSCA HSA committee meeting, the topic of providing incentives to employees to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus was raised. Members stated they knew some companies were providing incentives through their wellness program and they wondered if anyone was providing the incentive through the health savings account (HSA) program. The short answer is no – no respondents to last week’s QOTW are providing an incentive through the HSA. A handful of respondents are providing one through the wellness program, though most that are providing an incentive are providing a cash incentive.

The companies that are providing an incentive (which is fewer than a third), are doing so in a variety of ways, including additional PTO, gift cards, and raffles. Comments include:

  • "Operation Roll 'Em Up", a company-wide campaign encouraging Stallion team members to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The campaign will require that team members submit their proof of vaccination to be entered for a prize drawing at the conclusion of the event.
  • $100 amazon gift card. Plus $50 if they get the booster.
  • $100 per month surcharge for employees who are unvaccinated and in our medical plans
  • 8 hours vacation
  • Have a vaccination requirement, no incentive
  • In addition to the wellness incentive, we also did a drawing for 10 people to each receive $5000 if they were fully vaccinated by Oct 1, 2021.
  • The cash incentive of $1,000 is ending on 11/30/21
  • Vaccination is a mandatory condition of employment as of 1/1/2022. Until then unvaccinated employees will have to take weekly COVID tests at their own expense in order to work.
  • We are giving everyone a gift card that can provide proof of vaccination.
  • We continue to protect our employee's personal choice and maintain confidentiality of any health information
  • We offered a $25 Amazon gift card.
  • We're offering paid time separate from employees' own PTO for vaccine/booster and recovery.
  • We've offered additional PTO via a points system for certain wellness activities including vaccinations (flu, COVID-19).  As well, if they are on our health plan, these also are included as qualifying items to enable them to receive discounts on our next year premiums.
